Cars can be hacked just like computers
The death of investigative journalist Michael Hastings in a fiery car crash in Hollywood in the summer of 2013 has sent a chill through not only the journalism community but the world. The Rolling Stone star reporter was as dangerous as a journalist could be in this day and age where most journalists act like obedient goldfish working for the government. Hastings, as you see in this clip, was a rare believer in the separation between press and government. He said Obama has declared war on the press and the press should declare war back. At the time of his death he was working on a big story about the CIA, and he told friends it was the biggest story of his life.
What happened to him?
Just hours before his death, contacted a Wikileaks lawyer about being under investigation by the FBI.
The fact that the car seemed to explode, that the engine and transmission were dislodged from the car and found several hundred feet away, all bolstered claims that the 33-year-old was assassinated.
Can cars be remote hacked?
According to a prominent security analyst, technology exists that could've enabled someone to hack his car. Former U.S. National Coordinator for Security, Infrastructure Protection, and Counter-terrorism Richard Clarke told The Huffington Post that what is known about the single-vehicle crash is "consistent with a car cyber attack."
"There is reason to believe that intelligence agencies for major powers" ” including the United States ”know how to remotely seize control of a car," Clarke said.
