The use of atomic weapons against Japan was necessary to end the war.
This interview covers the reality.
Was is right? Was it wrong?
Here's an interesting fact. The most lethal attack on a Japanese city was not Hiroshima or Nagasaki. It was the firebombing of Tokyo on the night of March 9/10 - 1945.
Callousness towards civilians was common among all the participants: Churchill, Stalin, Hitler. They all had the same basic attitude to the death of their own citizens during war. It didn't matter.
