Lavabit closed rather than submit to FBI
Sometimes tech companies do take the high road.
Ladar Levison, owner of Lavabit, an encrypted email service, shut down his company rather than - literally - turn his keys over to the FBI.
The FBI had wanted to track Edward Snowden's emails.
Oh, and have access to Lavabit's 400,000 other users' emails as well.
Greedy.
Ladar said no, and when he went public, he was threatened with arrest.
