There's a huge difference between law enforcement and the military.
With law enforcement the goal is to keep the peace and if arrests need to be made to bring people to trial alive and well.
In case this is news to anyone, let me lay out out: The goal of military operations is to kill people. That's what all the equipment, training and tactics are all about.
And even if your job is to load trucks or shuffle papers, it's all in the service of putting guns in hands so they can put bullets in people.
Shocking I know.
It's easy to think it's all about Memorial Day parades, heartwarming family reunions and bringing freedom to the world.
So here's the point: When law enforcement people are given military type weapons, military type training and encouraged to "play soldier" it's a recipe for disaster which we're seeing in Albuquerque and around the country.
