The concept of "anarchy" started to become popular in the US and Europe when it became obvious that an unholy alliance of government, big money interests and criminals were creating systems to institutionalize the defrauding and enslaving of people in the industrial age.
The "bad guys" got to work and created some of their best propaganda ever, painting "anarchy" as a movement of bomb-throwing crazies.
