At the turn of the last century, pit bulls were called "the infant's companion".

They now have an undeserved reputation as a vicious breed.

One Louisiana town had a knee-jerk reaction and created a pit bull ban.

They have never had a problem with vicious dogs there.

Yet, they notified pit bull owners to get rid of their dogs or they would be taken away.

Update: due to the public outcry, it seems the town has been pressured into reversing the ban. Hooray!
